Abdul Hamid is the first Saudi to participate in the French League.

Saudi international Saud Abdulhamid made history in French football history by becoming the first Saudi player to participate in the French League. He came on as a substitute in the second half of his team Lens's match against Lyon in the opening round of the new season. Lens had signed Abdulhamid on a one-season loan from Italian club Roma, and the player received a warm welcome from his team's fans upon entering the field. The match ended in a 1-0 home defeat for Lens, with Georgian George Mikotadze scoring in stoppage time of the first half (45+1). This gave Lyon an ideal start in a new phase of its history after its ownership was transferred to Michel Kang, who succeeded in saving the club from administrative relegation to the second division due to its financial crisis. This season, Lyon is relying on prominent names to compensate for the departure of winger Rayan Cherki to Manchester City, such as Belgian Malick Fofana, who was the star of the match and provided the assist, along with striker Mikotadze and veteran captain Corentin Tolisso.
