Increased stoppage time in the Bundesliga

The German Referees' Committee has announced an expected increase in stoppage time during Bundesliga matches with the start of the new season. Additional time will be calculated more accurately based on the actual stoppage time during matches, as the start of the second and third divisions has seen an increase in stoppage time this season. Accordingly, the committee expects Bundesliga matches to extend further than before when the season kicks off on August 22. Knut Kircher, the Referees' Committee's Managing Director of Sport and Media, explained that the actual playing time is currently less than 60 minutes and is expected to increase slightly, emphasizing that the goal is to achieve greater transparency and clarity in the calculation of stoppage time, not simply an increase in playing time. He also explained that the second assistant in the video technology room will be responsible for recording additional time, which includes substitutions, injury treatment, technical review, player celebrations, and other issues such as thunderstorms or crowd disturbances with fireworks, and then informing the referee of the total duration of stoppage time.
