Paris Saint-Germain vs. Tottenham: Who will win the European Super Cup?

The European club football season kicks off with a fiery clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday in Udine, Italy. The match pits Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain against Europa League holders Tottenham, who are looking to kick off the new season with another title to add to their impressive haul. The match will be held at the Stadio Friuli, home of Udinese. PSG fans will never forget last season, when the team achieved a historic quadruple under the leadership of Spanish coach Luis Enrique, winning the French League, the Coupe de France, and the French Super Cup. They then won their first Champions League title with a thumping 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the final in Munich, the largest margin of victory in the history of the tournament. Enrique had even greater ambitions as he attempted to complete a remarkable quintuple after winning the newly revamped Club World Cup in the United States, but the team suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the final, ending his dream. Paris Saint-Germain have been under pressure to prepare for the game, having started the season directly after the previous one ended less than a month ago. However, most of their players are in good physical condition, giving Enrique the opportunity to select a strong lineup. Goalkeeping could change as Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to leave the club and Lucas Chevalier has signed. Joao Neves is suspended, but Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez return. Tottenham, on the other hand, have been in a tight pre-season under new Danish manager Thomas Frank, playing six unbeaten friendlies before losing 4-0 to Bayern Munich. After a long wait of 17 years, the team regained the podium by winning the Europa League last season, but former manager Ange Postecoglou left after a difficult Premier League campaign. Victory in the UEFA Super Cup represents a crucial test for Tottenham ahead of the Champions League campaign, as they seek stability under Frank, who will make his Premier League debut against Burnley next Saturday. Tottenham will be without several key players, most notably James Maddison, who suffered a cruciate ligament tear. Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin, and Dominic Solanke are also sidelined, while the participation of left-back Destiny Udogie remains doubtful. This will be Tottenham's first appearance in the UEFA Super Cup, while Paris Saint-Germain will be hoping to make amends for their historic defeat in the 1996-97 edition, which saw them thrash Juventus 9-2 on aggregate.
