Manchester legend mourns 'Pele of Palestine'

Former Manchester United and France legend Eric Cantona has strongly attacked the Israeli occupation following the news of the martyrdom of Suleiman Al-Obeid, the former player and captain of the Palestinian national team and Services Beach Club, as a result of an Israeli airstrike that targeted the Gaza Strip. Palestinian media reported that Al-Obeid was killed by Israeli army bullets while he was in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, where he was waiting for humanitarian aid. Cantona mourned the late player through his Instagram account in a touching message in which he described the Israeli attack on Gaza as "genocide," saying: "Israel killed the star of the Palestinian national team, Suleiman Al-Obeid, while he was waiting for aid in Rafah. He was nicknamed the 'Pele of Palestine'. How long will we allow this genocide to be committed? Palestine is free." Known for his speed and skill, Al-Obeid scored over 100 goals during his career, including four goals for the Palestinian national team, including a stunning scissors kick against Yemen during the 2010 West Asian Football Federation Championship. Al-Obeid has been nicknamed "The Dark Gazelle," "The Black Pearl," "Henry of Palestine," and "Pele of Palestinian Football." He was crowned the top scorer in the Palestinian Professional League more than three times and led the Al-Amari Youth Center team to win the first professional league in Palestine, according to Palestine Online. May God have mercy on Suleiman Al-Obeid and grant him a place in heaven, and inspire the Palestinian people with patience and steadfastness.
