Sheffield Wednesday fans protest against the club's owner

Sheffield Wednesday's supporters' group has announced protests against club owner Djvon Chansiri during the club's opening Championship match against Leicester City on Sunday. Chansiri has come under increasing pressure to sell the club following a major crisis that saw players go unpaid for the third consecutive month last week. The group has urged fans to delay their entry to their seats until five minutes after kick-off and has also displayed a large banner in the away section of the King Power Stadium, which will be virtually empty. The group has also announced more stringent measures for the team's first home match against Stoke City on August 16, which will be announced soon. "With Sunday's game being broadcast live on Sky Sports, the absence of fans will further highlight the plight of our club," the statement read. "While we recognize the club needs more stringent measures this season, we do not feel this game (against Stoke City) is the right choice. The opportunity, with significant national coverage, is too good to miss," the league added. "Further details and stronger measures will be revealed for our first home game against Stoke City, and we will announce them soon."
