Italian star Lorenzo Insigne officially signs with Toronto FC

Canadian Toronto FC announced today that the club has officially signed Italian national team star Lorenzo Insigne to a four-year Designated Player deal that will begin on July 1, 2022.
Insigne's contract with his Italian club expires at the end of the current season, as the player has not succeeded in renewing his contract with the club. Insigne, who turns 31 on June 4, will complete his current season with Napoli before joining Toronto FC on a four-year deal after his current contract expires on July 1.
Insigne helped Italy win the European Championship in July and his signing represents a coup for the MLS team last July, which was held in several cities on the European continent, and the Blues won the Wembley final against England on penalties.
Insigne, who turns 31 in June, currently serves as Napoli's captain as they try for a Serie A title and Europa League run, netting four goals and four assists in 16 Serie A appearances this season.
