Real Madrid surpasses 50 goals in the World Cup

Real Madrid left-back Fran Garcia scored the club's 50th goal in the Club World Cup during Los Blancos' match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening, in the quarter-finals of the tournament currently being held in New York City. Real Madrid qualified for the semi-finals of the Club World Cup after defeating Dortmund 3-2, and will face Paris Saint-Germain. Garcia's goal came in the 20th minute of the match at MetLife Stadium, after his young teammate Gonzalo Garcia had opened the scoring for the Royal Club, scoring the team's 49th goal in the tournament. Real Madrid entered the match with 48 goals across its previous and current participations, becoming the first club in the history of the tournament to reach 50 goals. Real Madrid is the historic champion of the Club World Cup in terms of the number of titles and goals scored, ahead of its closest pursuers, Egypt's Al Ahly, who have 38 goals, and Mexico's Monterrey, who have 31 goals. Al-Hilal Saudi Arabia comes in fourth place with 25 goals, ahead of Bayern Munich, which has 24 goals, while Barcelona and Manchester City share the next spot with 23 goals each.
