Saudi Arabia to host the Italian Super Cup in December

The Italian Football League (Serie A) announced that the Italian Super Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia for the fourth time, next December, instead of January 2026, as previously scheduled. Serie A president Ezio Simonelli said in press statements following the league's general assembly that the semi-final matches will be held on December 18 and 19, while the final will be held on December 22. Simonelli indicated that the host city for the matches has not yet been determined, explaining that the final decision in this regard rests with Saudi Arabia, the host country. He added: "I hope the matches will be held in Jeddah, but I do not have the freedom to choose." The Italian Super Cup has been held since 2023 with the participation of four teams: the league champions and runners-up, in addition to the Coppa Italia champions and runners-up. The upcoming edition of the tournament includes Napoli (serie A champions), Inter Milan (runners-up), Bologna (cup winners), and Milan (runners-up). Milan won the last edition of the Super Cup, after defeating its traditional rival, Inter Milan, 3-2, achieving its first title since 2022. In another context, the president of the Italian League revealed that an official request has been submitted to move the league match between Milan and Como, scheduled for next February, to Australia. He explained that the League has contacted the Italian Football Federation, the European Union (UEFA), and the International Federation (FIFA). Simonelli explained that this step comes due to the closure of the "San Siro" stadium during the "Milan-Cortina 2026" Winter Olympics, scheduled for the period from February 6 to 22, as the stadium will be used for the opening ceremony, which requires the search for an alternative stadium. He concluded his statement by stressing that the League seeks to turn this circumstance into an opportunity to strengthen the presence of the Italian League on the international stage.
