A surprise that could change Messi's future

Press reports revealed a major surprise regarding the future of Argentine star Lionel Messi with his current club, Inter Miami, as his contract approaches the end of next December, after joining the team in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. ESPN Argentina reported that Messi is considering a new experience, possibly on loan, during the next season in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, with the aim of maintaining his fitness and moving forward towards achieving a second world title with the Argentine national team. The report indicated that Messi is considering the possibility of temporarily playing in a more competitive league before the start of the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The report also indicated that contract renewal negotiations between Messi and the Inter Miami administration are currently on hold, in light of the possibility of his departure in the coming period. Despite the emotional and historical relationship between Messi and Barcelona, his return to the club seems unlikely due to the club's difficult financial situation, in addition to disagreements with club president Joan Laporta. A return to his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, also seems unlikely, given the French club's focus on building a young and dynamic squad. Meanwhile, Manchester City has expressed interest in signing Messi, but the possibility of that happening remains uncertain, despite his strong relationship with City manager Pep Guardiola. Inter Miami were eliminated from the Club World Cup currently being held in the United States, following a heavy 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16.
