Guardiola chooses City captain to replace De Bruyne

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Portuguese star Bernardo Silva will captain the team next season, officially assuming the captain's armband as the Sky Blues begin their journey in the 2025 Club World Cup. According to the British newspaper, the Daily Mail, Guardiola was the one who directly decided to award the captaincy to Silva, an unusual move, as the captain was previously chosen by a player vote in consultation with the coach. This decision follows the departure of former captains Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne, leaving Silva to take the helm of a team that has won numerous domestic and continental titles under the Spanish coach. Guardiola previously confirmed that the team's leadership group for this season includes Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri, Erling Haaland, and Ilkay Gundogan, who previously left the team but is still remembered among the leaders of the previous stage. Despite receiving several lucrative offers during the summer transfer window, Bernardo Silva opted to remain with Manchester City, entering his eighth season with the club and continuing his successful Premier League career.
