Bayern Munich breaks Al-Hilal's World Cup record

Bayern Munich opened their campaign in the 2025 Club World Cup with a resounding 10-0 win over New Zealand's Auckland City at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, breaking the record for the biggest win in the tournament's history, previously held by Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal. Al Hilal had previously recorded the biggest win since the tournament's inception in 2000, when they thrashed UAE's Al Jazira 6-1 in the 2021 edition, held on February 6, 2022, in Abu Dhabi. Despite falling behind to an early goal, Al Hilal turned the tables with an exceptional attacking performance, securing their place in World Cup history. Al Hilal's record stood for more than three years, until the Bavarian giants rewrote history with the biggest scoreline in the tournament, thrashing Auckland City 10-0. This was a strong start for the German team in the current edition, which is being hosted by the United States until July 13. With this result, Bayern Munich tops the list of the biggest wins in the history of the tournament, ahead of Al Hilal, who dropped to second place. Third place is occupied by Mexico's Monterrey, who defeated Egypt's Al Ahly 5-1 in the 2013 edition, followed by Spain's Barcelona, who defeated Brazil's Santos 4-0 in the 2011 final. Bayern Munich's record result reflects their great readiness to compete for the title, while Al Hilal is credited with maintaining its distinguished record for more than three years, in one of the most prominent matches in their international history.
