Carreras on the verge of Real Madrid

Real Madrid is close to announcing the signing of left-back Álvaro Carreras from Benfica, in a deal that could reach €50 million, according to Spanish newspaper Relevo. Reports indicate that the official announcement of the deal could be made in the next few hours. The club is seeking to finalize the contract with Carreras before the start of the Club World Cup, as they hope to include the player in the squad for the tournament. The 21-year-old Spaniard's contract with Benfica includes a €50 million release clause, but Real Madrid's management is trying to reach an agreement with the Portuguese club to reduce the deal to around €30 million through direct negotiations. Carreras is a graduate of the Real Madrid academy, before leaving in 2022 to join Manchester United, and from there to Granada on loan. In January 2024, he moved to Benfica on loan before signing for the Portuguese club permanently for €6 million. He is currently under contract with Benfica until the summer of 2029. Carreras had a remarkable season with Benfica, appearing in 49 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing five assists. He was also named the team's Most Promising Player of the season.
