Maguire's final jinx continues

Harry Maguire's streak of individual failures in finals continued as he and his Manchester United team lost the 2025 Europa League title to compatriots Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in this season's final, which took place on Wednesday evening at the San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain. Maguire started in the defensive lineup under Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim, but his performance was not enough to lead the Red Devils to the European title, adding to the player's disappointing record in finals. This is Harry Maguire's third loss in a major final as a starter, following his defeat in the Euro 2020 final with England against Italy, the 2024 Community Shield final, and now the 2024-25 Europa League final. In contrast, his only two career titles came as a substitute, in the 2023 League Cup final and the 2024 FA Cup final. With this defeat, Manchester United ended their season without a trophy, amid growing questions about the future of several of the team's stars, including Maguire, who has become a symbol of the team's inconsistent defensive performance in recent years.
