Paris Saint-Germain is suing Mbappé

The tense relationship between French club Paris Saint-Germain and its former star, Kylian Mbappé, now a Real Madrid player, has escalated after the Parisian club decided to resort to the judiciary to demand financial compensation of €98 million. This development comes amid an ongoing legal dispute, with Mbappé demanding €55 million from his former club, representing wages and bonuses he believes he is owed for last season, after leaving the team for free at the end of his contract in the summer of 2024, joining Real Madrid. Spanish newspaper AS reported that Paris Saint-Germain submitted an official request during a court hearing on Monday to compel Mbappé to pay €98 million, asserting through his lawyer that the player had not provided evidence of his entitlement to any sums from the club. In another legal move, Paris Saint-Germain appealed to the Paris Court of Appeal, seeking to overturn a previous decision by the French League, which had been issued in Mbappé's favor in the fall of 2024. The club refused to implement this decision, claiming that the league lacked the authority to issue such a ruling. Paris Saint-Germain also filed a countersuit against Mbappé, after the player sued his former club last September to demand his dues. A lawyer for the Parisian club stated that the player caused financial harm to the club by intentionally delaying the contract renewal, explaining that the goal of the lawsuit is not necessarily to collect the €98 million, but rather to prove that Mbappé is not entitled to his financial demands.
