Maradona’s family organizies an auction to sell his personal belongings

Diego Maradona fans can pick up memories of the football star at an online auction that started in Buenos Aires just over a year after his death, and this will include his famous cigar, a couple of BMWs and a luxury villa he bought for his parents.
The “tenth auction”, referring to the shirt number Maradona wore when he played for Argentina, which he led to the 1986 World Cup winner, is held by his family to raise money, while legal issues related to the distribution of the player’s assets are resolved.
At this time, we have 1120 people registered and have the opportunity to bid on the auction, says Adrian Mercado, the organizer of the sale.
He said the 87 items to be displayed will have a minimum value of $ 50 to $ 900,000. The Argentine authorities ordered the sale in agreement with the heirs of the property of the world champion from 1986.
Mercado added: “His children presented a wonderful selection of his things.” He continued, “As for the things that are most sentimental, with fond memories and great devotion, the family will keep.”
The house being auctioned, in the Villa Devoto area of Buenos Aires, is the house Maradona gave to his parents in the 1980s when “number 10” played for the professional Boca Juniors team.
A message on the website promoting the auction read: “The years have passed, the clubs, the stories and the world championship, but the house in Cantelo (street) has always been Maradona’s place.”
The villa that Maradona gave to his parents, in which they lived until his death on November 25, 2020, differs from the modest house in the slum where he was born in 1960. It is comfortable, if not luxurious, and includes a swimming pool. A minimum bid of $ 900,000 has been set.
