Financial Fair Play Law Officially Enforced in Egypt

Egypt Implements Financial Fair Play Rules to Regulate Sports Clubs

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Egypt's Minister of Sports, revealed official steps aimed at implementing the Financial Fair Play law in the Egyptian Premier League, as part of the ministry's efforts to ensure transparency and equality among clubs. In statements to reporters, Sobhi confirmed that the ministry will form a legal committee in coordination with the Egyptian Football Association, the body responsible for implementing the law, to ensure the effective implementation of Financial Fair Play principles within clubs. The Minister of Sports indicated that the ministry does not provide direct financial support to clubs for purchases, stressing that clubs must operate within their own budgets and adhere to correct financial standards. Commenting on the statement by Zamalek SC announcing the departure of its player Ahmed Mostafa "Zizo," the club stated that it had made a serious offer to the player to renew his contract in accordance with Financial Fair Play principles, reflecting the clubs' ongoing efforts to comply with the new financial laws. Sobhi also explained that the amendment to the Egyptian Sports Law aims to address current shortcomings and develop the sports system in general, as inspection committees will be sent to verify any violations. He indicated that this measure is the inherent right of the Ministry of Sports to maintain the integrity of competitions. Regarding the ministry's projects to discover local talent and export them to Europe, Sobhi confirmed that the ministry has supported numerous projects aimed at developing local players. However, he pointed out that the strength of the Egyptian league makes local players more eager to stay in their country, despite the success of some players in moving to European leagues, such as Mohamed Salah, who has become a symbol of success in the world of international football.
