Wrexham's Third Promotion Marks a New Era for the Club
Wrexham continued their incredible rise, achieving a historic milestone by securing promotion to the English Football League Championship, after a resounding 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic in the third division. In front of a large crowd at the "Racecourse" stadium, with Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in attendance, Sam Smith scored twice after Oli Rathbone opened the scoring, leading the team to write a new chapter in their extraordinary journey.
Wrexham became the first team in English football history to achieve three consecutive promotions through the league ranks, solidifying their commitment to continue their upward trajectory under the guidance of manager Phil Parkinson. The team now has 89 points, sitting second behind leaders Birmingham City (102 points), with one game left in the season.
At home, Wrexham dominated from the start, with Rathbone opening the scoring in the 15th minute with a powerful shot following a short corner from James McClean. Just three minutes later, Smith added a second with a brilliant finish after a precise pass from Matty James, before completing his personal double with a third goal in the 81st minute, benefiting from a cross by Max Cleworth.
Wrexham, which has become a football inspiration story since its Hollywood takeover, proves that ambition and a clear vision can work wonders.
