Mendy Suffers Injury Blow During El Clasico Clash

Mendy Injury Shocks Real Madrid During El Clasico vs Barcelona

French full-back Ferland Mendy suffered a sudden injury just eight minutes into the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Real Madrid. In an accidental collision with defender Jules Koundé, Mendy aggravated his recurring muscle issues and collapsed to the ground, unable to continue. After a quick medical examination, it was decided that Mendy would leave the field, with Fran García coming on as his replacement.

It’s worth noting that Mendy has a long history of injuries, the latest occurring on March 12 during the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal against Atlético Madrid, which kept him sidelined for nine matches. In his return against Barcelona, it was evident that he had not fully recovered, as his physical performance noticeably declined shortly after kickoff.

This is Mendy’s fourth injury this season, with previous absences ranging from 11 to 45 days. This latest setback adds to the series of physical problems that have plagued him since joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2019, marking perhaps the most difficult period of his career with the club.

The injury has also disrupted manager Carlo Ancelotti’s plans, forcing an early substitution that could impact his tactical approach for the remainder of the match.
