Real Madrid and Yamal crowned Laureus Awards 2025

At a glittering ceremony in Madrid, Real Madrid was named "Team of the Year" at the Laureus World Sports Awards for an exceptional season filled with achievements. The club has won numerous major trophies, most notably the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Intercontinental Cup, in addition to winning the Spanish league title last season. In a remarkable move, young Spanish winger Lamine Yamal, a Barcelona player, won the "Best Career Achievement" award after his impressive performances with the Spanish national team at last summer's European Championship, in addition to leading Barcelona to the Spanish Super Cup. This award reflects a bright future for the player, who is considered one of the most prominent football talents of his generation. The ceremony also saw the honoring of several sports champions from various sports. Britain's Tom Pidcock won the "Best Action Sportsman" award, while China's Yuan Jiang was named "Best Athlete with a Disability" in recognition of his creativity and excellence in his sport. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to American surfing champion Kelly Slater, who achieved unprecedented achievements throughout his career, a fitting tribute to his long career. The Laureus Awards ceremony would not have been complete without honoring Swedish pole vault champion Armand Duplantis, who was named World Sportsman of the Year after winning gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics, once again demonstrating his outstanding skill and creativity in his sport. The Laureus Awards are considered one of the most prestigious sporting awards in the world, bringing together the most prominent names and teams across various sports to celebrate the exceptional achievements of the year.
