Records await Newcastle against Manchester United

Newcastle United are aiming to break several records when they face Manchester United on Sunday in the Premier League this season. Following a 2-0 win at Old Trafford last December, Newcastle are looking to achieve their first double-leg victory over Manchester United in the league since the 1930-31 season. Manchester United have lost their previous two away league matches against Newcastle, and their last defeat came on three consecutive visits to St. James' Park between 1969 and 1970. The Red Devils also have a poor record against top-flight teams in the Premier League this season, with United without a win in their eight matches against teams starting the week in the top five. While this head-to-head record has previously been heavily favoured by Manchester United, the balance of power has shifted recently, with Newcastle winning four of their last five meetings with the Red Devils in all competitions (losing once), the same number of wins as they achieved in their previous 41 meetings (with nine draws and 28 losses).
