Sudan continues to lead the World Cup qualifiers

Sudan maintained their lead in Group B of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, holding Senegal to a goalless draw on Saturday evening at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benghazi, Libya, in the fifth round of the qualifiers. Despite playing their matches away from home due to the current circumstances in the country, Sudan managed to maintain their lead with 11 points, one point ahead of second-placed Congo (10 points), while Senegal dropped to third with nine points. The 2026 World Cup qualifiers offer Africa nine direct places for the first time in World Cup history, with the opportunity to secure an additional place via the global play-off. The nine group winners qualify directly, while the four best second-placed teams will enter a play-off to determine Africa's representative in the play-offs. With this draw, the Sudanese national team strengthened its hopes of qualifying for the World Cup, and continues its journey with confidence toward realizing its dream of participating in the World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
