Real Madrid threatens to boycott La Liga

Media reports revealed a major surprise from Real Madrid regarding its upcoming matches in the Spanish League. The Spanish program "El Chiringuito" reported that the royal club threatened not to play its matches in Spain if FIFA's protocol regarding the rest period between matches continued to be ignored. The program explained that there was a state of extreme anger within Real Madrid after the team played its match against Villarreal on Saturday in the Spanish League, which ended in a 2-1 victory. It indicated that the club threatened not to play if the team was not given at least 72 hours of rest between matches, in accordance with FIFA's protocol. The report indicated that Real Madrid played a difficult match on Wednesday against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, and qualified for the quarter-finals after winning on penalties. The following day, the team played Villarreal in the Spanish League and managed to come from a goal down to win 2-1. In statements reported by the program, coach Carlo Ancelotti said: "I don't understand why we are playing on Saturday when we played last Wednesday. The minimum rest period is 72 hours, but there's nothing we can do." He added, "It's probably about money and TV rights, not the players' best interests in recovering."
