Bayern Munich Hit by Fresh Covid Scare, 1 Player and 2 Club Employees Test Positive

After Niklas Zule, Thomas Muller and Jamal Musia from Bayern Munich returned to training after recovering from Covid-19 infection, Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich have been hit by a fresh Covid-19 scare ahead of Friday’s match at Augsburg, with defender Josip Stanisic and two club employees testing positive for the virus.
Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic has tested positive for COVID-19, the German champions said on Wednesday, only days after team mate Niklas Suele had been sidelined by the virus.
Confirmation of the three new infections comes just one day after Bayern players Joshua Kimmich — who has revealed he is not vaccinated — Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala came out of quarantine.
Croatia defender Stanisic had been on international duty in the past week and came on as a substitute in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Russia in their World Cup qualifier.
“Josip Stanisic has tested positive for the coronavirus,” Bayern said in a statement. “The Bayern Munich defender has been fully vaccinated and has gone into isolation at home. He feels good.”
Defender Suele is still in quarantine after testing positive 10 days ago.
Bayern team mates Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting who had been isolated following Suele’s infection, have returned to training.
Bayern, top of the Bundesliga returns from the international break as it hosts its Bavarian neighbor Augsburg on Friday. Bayern can move seven points clear at the top of the table with victory over third-bottom Augsburg. Bayern will also face Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League next week.
