List of nominees for the CAF Awards 2024
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the list of nominees for the men’s categories at the 2024 CAF Awards, scheduled to be held on Monday, December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco. The awards will cover the period from January to October 2024, and 10 players have been shortlisted to compete for this year’s “African Player of the Year” award, in addition to 10 other players competing for the “Best Club Player” award. The most prominent nominees for these awards include: Algerian Amine Gouiri (Rennes), Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen), Ivorian Simon Idingra (Brighton), and Moroccan Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain), in addition to many prominent names from the African continent. Egyptian star Mohamed Salah was also absent from the list this year. In other categories, South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was nominated in three different categories: Player of the Year, Best Goalkeeper, and Best Club Player. For the “Best Player Based in Africa” award, three Egyptian players, two Tunisians, and an Algerian player were nominated, in addition to other prominent names. The list of nominees for the "Best Goalkeeper" award in Africa was also announced, which includes goalkeeper Mustafa Shobair (Al-Ahly) and Osama Ben Bouet (Ittihad Algiers), in addition to other goalkeepers from the continent. As for clubs and national teams, Al-Ahly and Zamalek from Egypt were nominated, in addition to Renaissance Berkane and Esperance from Tunisia. The list of nominees for the "Best National Team" award also included teams such as South Africa, Morocco, Nigeria, and Côte d'Ivoire. In the coaches category, the Swiss Marcel Koller (Al-Ahly) and the Ivorian Emers Faye (Côte d'Ivoire national team) are competing, in addition to several other coaches.
