Messi equals Ronaldo's international hat-trick
Argentine star Lionel Messi, the Inter Miami player, has reached the 10th hat-trick in his international career, after scoring a hat-trick against Bolivia, during the Tango team's crushing 6-0 victory, at dawn on Wednesday, in the tenth round of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Argentine star Messi succeeded in equaling Ronaldo's record for the number of hat-tricks at the international level with 10 hat-tricks, and also raised the number of hat-tricks in his career in general to 58 hat-tricks.
The Inter Miami star scored the first hat-trick in his international career against Switzerland, in a friendly match that brought them together on February 29, 2012. In the same year, he scored another hat-trick against Brazil in a friendly match that ended with the Tango team winning 4-3, and in 2013 he scored a third hat-trick against Guatemala.
Messi scored his first competitive hat-trick during the 2016 Copa América, coming on as a substitute to score a second-half hat-trick against Panama, and a year later, he scored a crucial hat-trick against Ecuador in the South American qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Haiti were the next victims in a friendly in 2021, followed by Bolivia later that year in a World Cup qualifier in Qatar, and in June 2022, Messi put in a brilliant display against Estonia, scoring all five goals in Argentina's 5–0 friendly win.
