Alisson out of World Cup qualifiers

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson will miss the national team's next two 2026 World Cup qualifiers after sustaining an injury during Liverpool's 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has announced. The federation confirmed in a statement that Palmeiras goalkeeper Weverton has been called up to replace Alisson for Thursday's clash with Chile in Santiago, before Brazil host Peru in Brasilia on October 15. The statement indicated that Alisson left the field due to pain in his thigh, and the national team's medical staff informed Liverpool of his inability to participate in the two matches. The federation also added that Brazil coach Dorival Junior had called up Lucas Beraldo from Paris Saint-Germain to replace Bremer, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee. Brazil currently sit fifth in the South American World Cup qualifiers, with ten points from eight games, with the top six of the ten teams qualifying directly for the finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
