Arteta agrees to extend Arsenal contract

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed a new three-year contract to keep him at the club until 2027, according to a media report. Arteta, 42, has been in charge of Arsenal since 2019 and has led the club to second place in the last two seasons, but is entering the final 12 months of his contract. Arteta has called for calm over his contract with the club over the past month, insisting his focus was on the transfer window. The new deal comes ahead of Sunday's North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur. Since leaving his coaching role at Manchester City to take over from Unai Emery, former Arsenal player Arteta has enjoyed a string of successes and put the team back in contention for trophies. In his first season in charge, Arsenal won the FA Cup in 2020 and also won two Community Shield titles in 2020 and 2023. The team has also finished second in the Premier League in the last two seasons, and is in a battle with Manchester City for the title. Arsenal currently sits fourth in the table after just three rounds of the league, having achieved two wins and a draw, and begins its Champions League campaign against the Italian team Atalanta next week.
