Modric celebrates 180th match

Croatia captain Luka Modric expressed his great happiness after leading his team to victory over Poland in the second round of the group stage of the UEFA Nations League 2024-25 season, scoring the only goal in the match that took place on Sunday evening, September 8. Modric celebrated reaching his 180th international match with Croatia, as he made his first international appearance in March 2006 during a friendly match against Argentina that Croatia won 3-2. Modric, who raised his goal tally to 27, said, "These were three very important points. We needed to win to boost our self-confidence." He pointed out that the victory was required after a series of matches without wins, stressing: "We are satisfied with the result and happy with the goal, but the most important thing is the victory." Modric continued: "I am happy to score a goal from a free kick after a long time, and I feel proud to represent the Croatian national team and I will continue to play as long as I have the same passion and desire."
