Messi and Neymar bid farewell to Suarez with warmth

Despite a goalless draw with Paraguay in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, it was a special Saturday at Montevideo’s Centenario Stadium as it saw the farewell of Luis Suarez, the 37-year-old Uruguayan star who has decided to retire from international football. Suarez was overcome with emotion during the match as fans gave him a standing ovation, expressing their appreciation for his distinguished career. Suarez, who entered the pitch in tears, scored 69 goals in 143 international appearances and played a vital role in Uruguay’s 2011 Copa America triumph. The farewell ceremony included a message from his Inter Miami teammate Lionel Messi, who sent a video message on the stadium’s giant screen expressing his love and respect for Suarez, and wishing him the best of luck in the tribute he deserved. His former Barcelona teammate Neymar also sent words of appreciation and praise, expressing his honor in knowing Suarez as a player and a man. Suarez was part of Barcelona's famous 'MSN' attacking trio with Messi and Neymar between 2014 and 2017, during which they won numerous titles, including the historic treble in 2015.
