Ronaldo: I will not retire.. I will play with Portugal
Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has once again denied his intention to retire from football in the near future, stressing that he is still capable of contributing to the Portuguese national team despite reaching the age of 39. Ronaldo, who is preparing to face Croatia on Thursday in the first round of Group A of the European Nations League, said that he will decide to retire from playing when the time comes, but the decision will not be difficult for him. He added that "if I feel that I no longer have anything to offer, I will be the first to leave," citing his companion Pepe, who retired last August at the age of 41. Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi club Al-Nasr, indicated that Al-Nasr may be the last team in his professional career, but he does not know when he will hang up his boots. He told Portuguese channel "Nao" that he does not know if he will end his career soon or in two or three years, but he feels satisfied at Al-Nassr. Despite his advanced age, Ronaldo still maintains his scoring sense, having scored 68 goals in 74 matches with Al-Nassr, including the Arab Club Champions Cup, in which he won his first title with the club. Ronaldo also touched on his career with the Portuguese national team, confirming that he will decide to leave the team spontaneously and will not announce it in advance. He stated that "what I want now is to be able to help the national team." This summer's European Championship may be his last major tournament with Portugal, as the team's journey ended in the quarter-finals at the hands of France. Ronaldo is the most-capped player with Portugal, with 212 matches, and the most-scorer with 130 goals, a world record. Commenting on the criticism of his performance at Euro 2024, he said that he "never thought about leaving the national team" and stressed that bad times help him develop.
