Chelsea sign Villarreal goalkeeper until 2031
English: English club Chelsea have announced the signing of Danish goalkeeper Philip Jorgensen from Spanish club Villarreal during the current summer transfer window. The English club said in a statement: "Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of Danish goalkeeper Philip Jorgensen from Villarreal." It added: "The 22-year-old has signed a seven-year contract with the Blues and will join up with his new teammates during our summer tour of the United States." The Danish goalkeeper told the club's official website: "This move is a dream come true. I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can't wait to get to know everyone and start playing with my new teammates." Born in Sweden, Jorgensen joined Villarreal at the age of 15 after spending time at Swedish clubs GIF Nike and Malmö and Spanish teams Santa Catalina, Peña Arrabal and Mallorca. After three years in the Spanish club’s youth system, he was promoted to Villarreal B and made his first-team debut against Peña Deportiva in October 2020. Jørgensen quickly began training regularly with the first team and established himself in Villarreal B. In December 2021, he earned his first-team debut in a 7-1 win over Atlético Sanluqueno in the Copa del Rey. He made his La Liga debut in January 2023 and, ahead of the 2023-24 season, Jørgensen has secured his place as Villarreal’s first-choice goalkeeper. He made 37 appearances in all competitions last season, helping Villarreal finish eighth in La Liga.
