The Curse Of The Euro Final Price Hits Italy
The Italian national team, the title holder, was eliminated from the European Nations Cup "Euro 2024", which is currently being held in Germany, until July 14, after losing to its Swiss counterpart, on Saturday evening, with two clean goals.
The quarter-final round became a knot for the teams holding the European Nations Cup during the last three editions, after the Italian team failed to overcome the barrier of the Swiss team, and before that the Portuguese team in the 2020 edition, and Spain in the 2016 edition.
The Azzurri national team, led by its coach Luciano Spalletti, failed to break the curse of the European Nations Cup final round for the title-holding teams, and fell to its Swiss counterpart, with a clean double, so the latter awaits the winner of England’s confrontation with Slovakia, in the quarter-finals.
The curse of the round of 16 of the European Nations Cup has struck the title-holder teams since the 2016 edition, which was held in France, after the Spanish team, the title holder of the 2008 and 2012 editions, lost to its Italian counterpart, by two clean goals.
This curse continued in the last edition of the tournament, when the Portuguese national team, the 2016 champion, lost to its Belgian counterpart in the round of 16, by one clean goal, and the Italian national team followed in the footsteps of Spain and Portugal, and bid farewell to the 2024 edition, against Switzerland, in the round of 16 as well.
