A Historic Achievement Awaits Messi In Copa America

Argentine star Lionel Messi, the American Inter Miami player, has the potential to achieve a historic achievement when he leads his country in the Copa America Championship, which is hosted by the United States of America between the months of June and next July. Messi needs to score 4 goals in order to equal the record for the all-time top scorer in the Copa America, and 5 goals in order to be at the top of the historical list. Messi comes in seventh place on the list of all-time Copa America top scorers with 13 goals, on par with several players, most notably his compatriot Gabriel Batistuta. The duo, Argentine Norberto Mendes and Brazilian Zizinho, are considered the all-time top scorers in Copa America, with 17 goals each, two goals behind Peruvian Lolo Fernandez and Uruguayan Ceferino Varela. While fifth place is shared by two players who are still active with their country's national teams, namely Peruvian Paulo Guerrero and Chilean Eduardo Varagas, who each scored 14 goals.
