Qatar Hosts The Next Three Editions Of The Arab Cup
The International Football Association Board granted Qatar the honor of hosting the next three editions of the Arab Cup, specifically the years 2025, 2029 and 2033, on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the FIFA Congress scheduled for Friday, in the Thai capital. The FIFA statement said: “At the request of the Qatar Football Association, Qatar will host the Arab Cup in 2025, 2029 and 2033.” Qatar had expressed its desire to host the Arab Football Cup for a second consecutive time in December 2025, through what was revealed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, in mid-February. Sheikh Hamad said: “As a Qatari (I say) Qatar has announced its desire, (but) as Vice President of the Arab Federation, there is no clear decision.” The former president of the Qatar Football Association continued: “There is an idea that the Arab Cup will be a continuation of the last edition, at the same level and under the umbrella of (FIFA) and the Arab Federation. We are in the final steps to hold the tournament in December 2025 in Qatar under the umbrella of (FIFA).” Sheikh Hamad added: “We hope, in coordination with FIFA, that the decision will be quick because the region needs such tournaments. Playing under the umbrella of FIFA is one of the most important reasons for its success, and countries are eager to participate.” Qatar hosted the last edition in December 2021 with the participation of 16 teams, when Algeria won the title at the expense of Tunisia, in a mini dress rehearsal for the 2022 World Cup.
