Portugal Coach: Ronaldo Is Hungry To Play

Portugal coach Roberto Martinez said that captain Cristiano Ronaldo showed “hunger and activity” before the friendly match against Slovenia (Tuesday), and he considered him a role model for the players inside the locker rooms. Ronaldo (39 years old) missed Portugal's 5-2 victory over Sweden last week to rest, but the Al-Nasr striker and top scorer in the Saudi League is preparing to lead his country against Slovenia. Martinez said during a press conference, “Cristiano is doing great. He plays a lot of minutes and his role is very important with his club. In the last three days he has shown vitality and thirst. He is an example to always be emulated in the locker room.” He added, "It will be a match to watch Ronaldo on the field, and for the rest of the players it will be an important experience to share the same room with him." Ronaldo remains the player who has played the most international matches (205) and the most goals scored with national teams (128 goals), and in the current season he scored 30 goals and made 11 assists in 33 matches. On the other hand, Slovenia coach Aleksandar Sekulic said, “It would be crazy not to respect a name like Cristiano.” Portugal appears to be a strong candidate to win the European Championship title next summer in Germany, and will compete in a group that includes Turkey, the Czech Republic, and a team emerging from the playoffs.
