Carvajal: “Spain Is Not Racist”!

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal believed that Spain is not a racist country, on the eve of the friendly football match between his country and the Brazilian national team under the slogan of combating racism. Brazilian star Vinicius Junior, Carvajal's teammate at Real Madrid, has been subjected to racist abuse on several occasions in recent years, most notably in May during a local league match against Valencia, which sparked international outrage. Spain organized a friendly match against Brazil, led by Vinicius, at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday under the slogan “One Skin” to help combat racism. Carvajal said in a press conference: “I do not think that Spain is a racist country. We have a very high level of (societal) integration. I came from a humble neighborhood, Leganes, and grew up with children of all kinds of nationalities. “I have a lot of friends of different skin colors.” Carvajal believed that fans who shout racist insults against players express their frustration in an “ugly” way towards athletes, adding: “Unfortunately, there are people who go to football (stadiums) and seem to unleash all their anger and anger. "When they feel it hurts someone, they do it more, and that's unfortunate." He promised that “this type of people should not be allowed to enter stadiums, because that (racism) is the ugliest thing that exists in sports.” Vinicius (23 years old) fell victim to racist abuse in many Spanish stadiums, even if he was sometimes not a party to the match. Real recently announced that it had filed a complaint after the racist insults its Brazilian striker was subjected to before the Champions League matches between its rival Barcelona and the Italian team Napoli on the one hand, and its arch-neighbor, Atletico Madrid, and the other Italian team, Inter. The club said: “Real Madrid filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office” on charges of “hate crimes and discrimination” after “racial and hateful insults directed at our player Vinicius Junior.” The new insults against Vinicius occurred near the “Montjuïc” stadium in Barcelona and the “Metropolitano” stadium in Madrid, before the matches between Barcelona and Atletico in the second leg of the Champions League final. Vinicius called on UEFA to “punish” those responsible for these attacks, after a video clip was broadcast on social media showing Atletico fans chanting: “Aleh (come on), Aleh, Aleh, Vinicius is a chimpanzee.” The Brazilian posted a tweet on the “X” website (formerly Twitter), mentioning the official accounts of the Champions League and the European Union for the game, in which he said: “I hope you (the European Union) have thought about punishing them.” It is likely that Carvajal will be face to face with his teammate Vinicius if he plays on Tuesday against Brazil.
