Everton's Penalty Reduced To A 6-Point Deduction

An independent appeals board decided to accept the appeal of Everton, which plays in the English Premier League, and reduce its penalty to deducting six points from its score instead of ten points. In November, the Independent Appeal Board decided to punish Everton by deducting ten points from its balance, after it was found that it had violated the financial rules of the Premier League. Allegations have been raised about Everton violating profit and sustainability rules in the period ending the 2021-2022 season, as the rule allows clubs to lose a maximum of 105 million pounds ($130 million) over a period of three years or face penalties. The Appeals Board concluded that Everton exceeded the league's maximum allowable profitability and sustainability limit by 19.5 million pounds ($24.7 million) during an evaluation period ending in the 2021-2022 season. The Council decided to reduce the discount imposed against Everton by four points from ten points to six points, bringing the team’s score to 25 points and advancing to fifteenth place in the English Premier League football standings.
