Due To Drought... Barcelona Is Required To Rationalize Water Consumption!

The General Council of Catalonia has waved a ban on showers in halls and sports centres, including the Luis Company Montjuïc stadium and the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training centre, which are used by the Spanish club Barcelona, as an austerity measure due to the drought, according to what the Catalan government’s climate action advisor said. The procedure will begin next January, after the Catalan government announced the move to the “pre-emergency phase” next week, in light of the drought that the region is suffering from. Barcelona will have to “recoup” the cost of the water used to irrigate the grass at the stadium and the training center, or “shower at home,” according to what climate action advisor David Mascort said. Mascort warned that the Barcelona team would continue “to consume water at the same current levels,” which would require it to “compensate.” Barcelona will host its matches at the Luis Companis Montjuïc Stadium during the 2023-2024 season, instead of its historic stadium, Camp Nou, due to development work at the club, and increasing the stadium’s capacity by 11,000 seats.
