Arteta: Xhaka will not leave the Emirates Stadium, he is an important player in our team
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says Granit Xhaka will not be leaving the club in the transfer window after heavily linked rumors with a move to Jose Mourinho's Roma, and depart from the Gunners this summer.
Xhaka scored in Arsenal's 2-1 friendly loss to Chelsea at Emirates Stadium on Sunday as part of the two teams' preparations for the new season 2021/2022.
Following the end of the friendly match, Mikel Arteta confirmed to the English "Sky Sports" network that Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka will not leave the Emirates Stadium for the upcoming season.
"Granit Xhaka will stay with us, he is an important player in our team," said Mikel Arteta.
The reliable journalist and transfer market expert on “Sky Sports” Fabrizio Romano explained that Arsenal offered Granit Xhaka a new contract until June 30, 2025 with an increase in his salary, and there is confidence in the Gunners management to complete the agreement shortly after rejecting Roma’s offer.
