French Super Cup: Lille wins the Champions Trophy at the expense of PSG

French champions Lille won the Trophee des Champions, or French Super Cup, for the first time after beating French Cup winners Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 on Sunday evening at Bloomfield Stadium.
Lille scored the winning goal in the 45th minute through Portuguese midfielder Xeka's long-range effort, after a successful pass from the Turkish Burak Yilmaz.
Paris Saint-Germain suffered many absences within its ranks, most notably: Sergio Ramos due to injury, and Kylian Mbappe, in addition to the absence of Neymar da Silva, Angel Di Maria, Marquinhos and Donnarumma because their summer vacation did not end. Dutch international Georginio Wijnaldum, who recently joined PSG after five years at Liverpool, also played for his new club for the first time, entering as a substitute in the 71st minute. Also, Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, who joined PSG this summer after one season at Inter Milan, made his debut with his new side.
On the other hand, Lille misses the services of its Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches.
Lille, the reigning French champion, won the first Champions Trophy in its history on Sunday, beating Paris SG 1-0, as the French club has not succeeded in achieving this championship since its inception.
