Barcelona sets date for Messi's farewell game

Barcelona officials have tentatively settled on the date of the farewell match for former Barcelona star Lionel Messi. According to the Spanish newspaper "El Mundo Deportivo", Barcelona is open to the idea of holding Messi's farewell on the opening day of the "Camp Nou" stadium, the stronghold of the Blaugrana in its new form, after his statements after being crowned with the 2023 Ballon d'Or award. Barcelona is scheduled to return to playing at Camp Nou with a 60% capacity in November 2024, and Barcelona is seeking not to delay holding Messi’s farewell match any further, especially since the stadium’s complete renovation will be completed in 2026. Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi will have a farewell game at Barcelona's Camp Nou, according to the La Liga club's sporting director Deco. Since Messi left Barça as a free agent in August 2021 because of the club's financial crisis, there has been talking of a tribute match to honor the Argentina great. Messi won the Ballon d'Or award 8 times, beating his closest rival, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, who won it 5 times in his football career.
