Barcelona Awaits to Reach Huge Champions League Landmark
Led by its coach Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona will seek to maintain their spotless record in the Champions League so far this season when they host Ukrainian counterpart Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday in the third round of the group stage of the prestigious European competition. FC Barcelona can reach a huge landmark in the Champions League by beating Shakhtar Donetsk at the Montjuic Stadium on Wednesday. The Blaugrana currently nursed a 100% record at the top of Group H in 2023/2024 following wins over Royal Antwerp and Porto. According to the Catalan newspaper "Sport", Barca is one win away from reaching 200 victories in the Champions League, if it defeats Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday at the "Luis Companis Olympic Stadium." The newspaper added that Barcelona played 341 matches distributed between the European Cup (1955-1992) and the European Champions League under the current system (1992-2023), where the Catalan team has achieved 199 victories so far, and remains one victory away from reaching 200 victories. Before that, though, Barca must focus on the task at hand on the continent. By picking up three points for the third time in the UCL this term, they will also reach a huge landmark. This is because winning will grant the Blaugrana a 200th victory across the European Cup and its modern-day successor the Champions League. They have 199 victories thus far - 26 of which came in the old format of the competition where they played 46 games and 173 in the Champions League where they have run out on 295 occasions for a combined total of 341.
