Bayern looking to stretch its win record in the Champions League
Bayern Munich will be looking to stretch its record 15-game winning run in the group stage of the Champions League on Tuesday with a victory at Turkish champion Galatasaray. The Bavarian club is unbeaten in its last 36 games in the group stage — also a competition record — but will face a tough task in Istanbul, where Galatasaray drew 2-2 with Copenhagen in its first game. The team followed up with a 3-2 victory at Manchester United in its second. The official website of Bayern Munich stated that if Bayern achieves victory over Galatasaray, it will be the first club in the history of the European competition to succeed in winning eight consecutive matches away from home in the group stage of the Champions League. The website added that Bayern Munich currently shares the record with Juventus after the latter won 7 consecutive matches away from home in the group stage of the Champions League between 2019 and 2021. Bayern has an exceptional record in the Champions League, as it succeeded in keeping its record undefeated in the last 36 matches it played in the group stage of the European Championship, with 33 victories and three draws, and also achieved 15 consecutive victories in the group stage in the recent period. Bayern Munich leads the standings of Group A in the Champions League this season, with 6 points, as it achieved victory in the first two rounds of the competition at the expense of Manchester United and Danish teams Copenhagen. Bayern has injury worries ahead of the first meeting between the clubs since the first round of the 1972-73 European Cup. The teams drew in Istanbul on that occasion, before Bayern comfortably won the second leg 6-0 in Munich with Gerd Müller scoring twice.
