The Spanish newspaper "Marca" nominated five stars to win the Ballon d'Or, led by Messi

The Spanish newspaper "Marca" nominated five stars to win the Ballon d'Or, led by Argentine star Lionel Messi, who won the award six times (a record), especially after winning his first title with his country, while witnessing a real competition from four stars.
According to "Marca" choices, 5 candidates are nominated for the Ballon d'Or award, after the end of the Euro 2020 and Copa America 2021 tournaments.
They are:
Lionel Messi
The out-of-contract Argentine wouldn't have been a serious contender had he not won the Copa America, but guiding Argentina to their first silverware since 1993 cannot be downplayed.Messi has achieved immortality now with his country - as he already had with Barcelona - and even with the Catalans he showed some of his very best form in 2021.Lionel with Barca appeared at his best level in 2021, and won with Barcelona the King's Cup, lost the league title and was eliminated from the round of 16 in the Champions League. He was crowned top scorer in the Spanish League and the best player in Spain.
Jorginho
Chelsea midfielder is the much-maligned midfielder is a double European champion, having won the Champions League with Chelsea and the European Championship with Italy.
Both the Champions League and international competitions tend to go a long way to determining the Ballon d'Or winner, so Georgino is an extraordinary candidate to win the award, as happened with Modric, the 2018 runner-up with Croatia and the European champion with Real Madrid.
Harry Kane
Kane, Tottenham striker was aiming to win the European Championship with England, because it was strongly enhancing his chances of achieving the Golden Ball award, but he lost the title in the end...
Harry Kane had England won Euro 2020, then Kane might well have been the favourite to take the prize. The Tottenham forward took a while to warm up in the tournament, but he stepped up in the knockout rounds.
Kane enjoyed a relatively good tournament, scored 4 goals, and led the national team to the first final in its history at Euro 2020, as well as his wonderful season with Tottenham.
Robert Lewandowski
The Polish Lewandowski, the best player in the world 2020, did not win the Ballon d'Or because France Football magazine canceled the event due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Lewandowski broke a long-standing Bundesliga record by netting 41 goals in 29 appearances in 2020/21, but still somehow lost out to Erling Haaland as player of the season in Germany.
Giorgio Chiellini
The Italian defender would be an unlikely winner, but his performances at Euro 2020 are worthy of serious recognition. The veteran defender built a wall alongside Leonardo Bonucci and in front of Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Italy wouldn't have won the European Championship without him.
