Rooney leaves DC United's Head coach by mutual

Wayne Rooney has left his position as head coach of MLS team DC United by mutual consent after failing to secure a play-off place for the second consecutive season. Rooney arrived as a mid-season replacement for Argentinian Hernan Losada in July 2022, but could not prevent his team from finishing bottom of the league. American DC United announced on Sunday the departure of its technical director former English star Wayne Rooney by mutual consent. Former Derby County manager Rooney was appointed as a mid-season replacement for Argentinian Hernan Losada in July last year but could not prevent his team from finishing bottom of the league. Rooney spoke to the media to explain why he was leaving the club. He said: "It's the right time. I've done everything I can to get this club into the playoffs. It's not a single thing that's happened. It's about timing." Of a new role anywhere else, Rooney added: "I’ve nothing lined up." DC United chief executive and co-chairman Jason Levien released his own statement on the decision.
Rooney ended his football career in January 2021 after 17 years.
