De Jong set to miss at least a month of action, injury upsets Xavi

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is set to miss up to five weeks with an ankle injury, according to Spanish reports. The Dutch international went off in the first half of Barca's 3-2 win over Celta Vigo in La Liga. Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong is set to miss at least a month of action with an ankle sprain. The Dutch international was forced off after 36 minutes in Barcelona’s 3-2 La Liga comeback win at home to Celta Vigo. De Jong was in clear pain following a tackle in the 18th minute but asked Xavi to leave him on to try and recover from the injury. Xavi admitted de Jong asking to come off was a bad sign with the midfielder not prone to injuries. Despite Xavi hinting the club will not know how long de Jong will be out of action until further tests are completed, early estimates hint at between five and seven weeks, as per Mundo Deportivo. According to the Spanish "Sport", the initial diagnosis of De Jong's injury is a sprained ankle, and he could be absent until November. As "Marca" newspaper titled the first examination that Frenkie de Jong underwent showed that he was suffering from a sprain in his right ankle, and for this reason, he will not be present against Real Mallorca, next Tuesday. Pablo Javi has replaced De Jong and assisted Barcelona's third goal against Celta Vigo, which was scored by Joao Cancelo. Barca takes over the temporary lead of the Spanish League standings from Real Madrid. The additional three points make Barca collect 16 points from six matches. Real, meanwhile, has the potential to return to the top of the standings if they win the Madrid Derby when they visit Atletico Madrid's headquarters.
