2021 Copa América: Chile qualifies for Copa America quarter-final after Uruguay draw

Chile booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Copa America on Monday after securing a 1-1 draw with Uruguay in Group A.
Veteran striker Eduardo Vargas fired La Roja ahead on 26 minutes before Uruguay salvaged a point through Atletico Madrid in the 66th minute.
Vargas's first-half strike saw him draw level with Peru's Paolo Guerrero on 14 goals in the Copa America's all-time goalscoring rankings, three behind the record of 17 held by Brazil's Zizinho and Argentina's Norberto Mendez.
The result left Chile with five points from three games and assures them of a place in the knockout stage. Uruguay remains in fourth place with one point from two games following their opening defeat to Argentina.
The build-up to the game had been overshadowed by controversy in the Chile camp after revelations the team had breached Covid-19 protocols by bringing a local hairdresser into the team hotel.
However there was no sign of the controversy affecting their play, with Vargas firing Chile ahead on 26 minutes from a tight angle after latching onto a clever pass from English-born Ben Brereton.
Uruguay grabbed a share of the points in the second-half when Suarez bundled in the ball from close range during a tangle with former Barcelona team-mate Arturo Vidal at the far post following a corner.
Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani almost snatched victory for Uruguay in the 85th minute, but his glancing header flashed just wide of the post.
The Chile encounter was clouded by controversy after the Chilean soccer federation issued a statement on Sunday saying it "recognizes the violation of the health bubble of the squad participating at Copa America, with the unauthorized entry of a barber who, despite his negative PCR test, should not have made contact with the players."
Vidal, one of the stars of the national team, along with defender Gary Medel, had posted on social media pictures showing a barber cutting his hair, apparently in the hotel where the “La Roja” team is staying, before the latter’s meeting against Bolivia 1-0 on Friday for competitions before the second round of the first group competitions in the continental championship.
According to Chilean media, the South American Football Confederation “CONMEBOL” will open a disciplinary file against the local federation for not respecting the strict procedures of the health protocol, while the host Brazil is the second country to suffer from the repercussions of (Covid-19) with nearly half a million deaths due to the epidemic.
Teams participating in the continental competition are not allowed to interact with other people, while CONMEBOL confirmed that a financial penalty of up to $30,000 will be imposed on violators.
