Xavi advises Dembele not to leave Barcelona for PSG

Spanish press reports revealed that Barcelona manager Xavi has reportedly cautioned Ousmane Dembele as he hankers for a move to PSG by reminding him of Neymar's Da Silva regrets, while he was making a last attempt to prevent Dembele from joining the Parisian. Dembele has rejected a contract offer from Barca and the price of a move to Les Parisiens is reportedly fixed at around £43million. Xavi yesterday warned the 26-year-old about trading Catalonia for the French capital after Neymar rued doing the same in 2017, according to Mundo Deportivo. PSG paid a record €222m in 2017 to bring the Brazilian to the Parc des Princes. Neymar was initially described as the man who would finally inspire the club to Champions League glory, but he failed to live up to expectations after six years in the French capital despite notching 118 goals and 77 assists in 173 appearances. Across six seasons at the club, he has scored 40 goals in 185 games. With Dembele's transfer saga to Paris Saint-Germain imminent to Dembele and the release clause activated yesterday, amounting to only 50 million euros, Xavi made a last attempt to stop the French striker from going to Paris. And according to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi urged Dembele to "think about Neymar" and his struggles at Paris Saint-Germain in a difficult meeting with Dembele over his future, while also highlighting the Brazilian's previous attempts to return to Barcelona. Xavi has always defended Dembele amid widespread criticism over his form and injury record, as the player continues to be part of the coach's plans. Xavi hopes Dembele will now dismiss a move to Paris Saint-Germain after an intense discussion at the Thompson Hotel in Dallas. Dembele has already agreed a five-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain and has also asked Barcelona to launch formal talks with the Ligue 1 champions to speed up the transfer process, having already made the decision to leave the Catalan club.
