The number of Barcelona players infected with the mysterious intestinal virus has risen to 9, according to what was revealed by club president Joan Laporta. FC Barcelona has confirmed its decision to cancel the friendly match against Juventus as part of the Soccer Champions Tour. The Blaugrana were due to start their pre-season campaign with a clash against the Serie A giants at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Barcelona said in a statement, via its Twitter account that a number of players were infected with a virus, and they will not play the match. According to the Catalan newspaper "Sport", the first infected was Frenchman Jules Conde. Jules had already missed the training so the infection hit 8 other players from Barcelona.  It is expected that the number of infections will increase. Juan Laporta said: "This is what it is and you have to accept it. Life and football produce these situations that force you to change your plans. We all really wanted to see the league champions with new signings." He added, "It was a very harsh blow to the affected players. I wish them a speedy recovery, and it is difficult for the Barcelona fans because we all wanted to see the team." Barcelona traveled on a regular preparatory tour to the United States, in preparation for the new season.
