Sevilla renews coach Mendilibar’s contract

Sevilla has rewarded Basque coach Jose Luis Mendilibar with a new contract for an additional year after guiding them to Europa League glory for the seventh time. Sevilla, who beat Roma on penalties in the Europa League final at the end of last month, said on their website that they had extended the contract with Mendelibar until June 2024.
Sevilla did that and more, securing survival with a few games to go before the end of the season and then knocking out the likes of Manchester United, Juventus, and then Roma in the Europa League final.
This led the leaders of the Andalusian club to decide to renew the contract for coach Mendilibar. “Jose Luis Mendilibar is renewed as coach of Sevilla until June 2024”, the Spanish club announced.
His new deal will only run for one more season, although vice-president Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco has said the length of the contract was up to Mendilibar himself.
Even with their improbable success and the significant financial aspect of returning to the Champions League, it could still be an intense summer at Nervion. Sporting director Monchi is said to be considering leaving the club and there is a general feeling that Sevilla’s squad still needs a lot of work.
Mendilibar also led Seville to continue his way in the European League at the expense of Manchester United and Juventus before winning the title for the seventh time in Budapest after beating Jose Mourinho's club, Roma FC.
